Breezy Fall Days

The weather the last few days has been a change from the chilly days we've had the last couple of weeks. The cold temperatures and cloudy days have been replaced with weather in the 60's with sunshine and a nice breeze. I find that the best outfits for these sunny but breezy days are my favorite crop jeans (but I'm short so more like ankle length) and a lightweight long(er) sleeved shirt.

For this particular weekend, I stuck with my favorite jeans. I own these JCP ones in multiple colors and washes. They are comfortable and hold up really well. They tend to come out with new versions of them every couple of months. This Joe Fresh for JCPenney is a great button up. I am a huge fan of flannel and plaids, and I especially love this one because it's maroon (gig 'em!). The Joe Fresh line usually has a ton of great pieces that tend to be a little trendier and more fun. I love the Joe Fresh brand, but don't have a store anywhere near by. This line satisfies my Joe Fresh cravings though! These poor Converse are pretty beat up. Honestly, a wash would do them well, but they are so comfortable. They also pair well with pretty much any casual outfit you might have. I slip them on to run errands or to go to class. I've even paired them with my J Crew denim dress before. They are so versatile.

Lastly, a Texas themed wall called for Texas themed accessories. Being the Texas girl that I am, I obviously own two different Texas state necklaces. I bought these both at Sam Moon during the last year. I love layering them together since they are smaller gold necklaces. I have a small bracelet, too, floating around somewhere.

I hope everyone else has been enjoying their Thanksgiving breaks. I am so happy I am getting to spend mine at the lake with my loved ones. It's crazy to think that the 25 Days of Christmas starts Monday on ABC Family. Who's already getting ready for the rest of the holiday season? We are!

Everything Glitters Meets the Simpson Sisters

OH.MY.GOODNESS. We met the other coolest sister duo from Texas, a.k.a. the Simpson Sisters. Since we knew this would result in a photo op (because there was no way we were leaving there without one with them), we got all dressed up in some of our favorite Jessica Simpson Collection pieces (as well as some of our other go-to's). You can find all the details on our outfits and makeup below.

We were obsessed with a lot of Jessica Simpson's collection pieces at Belk this weekend. We are super excited to share some of our other purchases as we wear them this fall and winter. The Simpson Sisters were super sweet! They took time to chat with us and even sign autographs. Ashlee said we were so pretty, which made us blush. We also managed to slip them our blog address, so fingers crossed that they read this.

Side note to Madi's outfit: The girl above, Niki, is one of Jessica Simpson's designers. She was hanging out and styling outfits at Belk when we were shopping on Friday. She convinced Madi to try on the leather jacket pictured above, and no surprise, she loved it. Even cooler, she found us at the event the next day and took a picture of us. She also is the designer for the jacket Madi bought, so Madi took a picture with her as well.

On top of dressing up, we also made sure to do our makeup so that we could finally share a beauty post as well. This is just the first of many. We hope to do some more detailed hair and makeup tutorials in the upcoming weeks!

This day was definitely one we won't be forgetting any time soon. It also helped to cross one thing off of Danielle's bucket list (meeting JSimp-she'd already met Ashlee by fluke before). Fall Inspired Centerpieces and Wreath

To follow up to my sister's latest post, I decided to show you my version of a fall wreath as well as some quick and simple centerpieces you can make. I use mine for my coffee table and dining room table. The wreath and centerpieces are easy to make and can be updated for each season.

First I will talk about the wreath. Here are the supplies you will need: a burlap wreath (you can see my sister's tutorial in her post - mine is rough looking, I know, but I have had it for 2 years now), orange burlap - I used a piece about 3 feet long and a foot wide and cut it in half lengthwise, fall decorations, orange ribbon (I bought the kind with wire because it was easier to make the bow), safety pins and scissors.

To get started, I first took the strips of orange burlap and wrapped them around the wreath. I connected the ends together and safety pinned to the back of the wreath. You will need to wrap and secure both strips of burlap. You could probably use more orange burlap if you prefer, but I was satisfied with what I had.

After getting the orange burlap on, I then added the welcome sign. I secured this to the wreath by taking some of the orange ribbon and tying the sign to the metal on the wreath. It is OK if the ribbon shows since it matches the rest of the wreath. Next, I secured my cute scarecrow and pumpkin by safety pinning them to the burlap. I think they added a nice touch, but you could certainly leave them off. Lastly, I created a bow using my orange ribbon to attach at the top of the wreath. There are a lot of bow tutorials online to make one that you like!

That's it! You are all done! Now go hang it on your front door and enjoy!

Ok, let's move onto the centerpieces. There isn't much to explain here - I mostly wanted to show you my pictures. The bowls were a wedding gift from my wonderful parents, but I believe you can find something similar at Hobby Lobby. I got the leaves and pumpkins at Walmart. The pumpkins were 98 cents each and the leaves were $2.97 for each 6ft strand. You could also use pine cones or other type of fall items if you don't want to use leaves or pumpkins.

To create these I cut the leaves into pieces probably about a foot long each and layered them in the bowls and arranged them to my liking. I then placed the pumpkins in the bowl and made sure not to smash the leaves down. Lastly, I put a candle from Bath and Body Works in the center of one and a vase with a small candle in the center of the other. The vase was used at my wedding and can be found at Hobby Lobby. That is it!! So simple, but looks nice sitting on your table. Enjoy!

DIY Holiday Wreath

Sometimes I like to get a little crafty. With the holidays right around the corner, I thought it would be an opportune time to finally make that burlap wreath that I keep eyeing.

*Disclaimer: I did not use all of the burlap & ribbon pictured above; it was there for backup*

As far as supplies, you will need about 2 1/2 rolls of burlap (I got mine from Walmart's "wedding" section), 2 rolls of a wider ribbon of your choice (this burlap colored sparkle ribbon is from Hobby Lobby), a wreath base (also from Hobby Lobby), pipe cleaners, decorations of your choice, and {optional} an adult beverage (just kidding, I was drinking Sprite, but wine might have led me to less frustration).

                

To get started, I looked at quite a few pins, but I didn't understand how exactly they were doing it. So what did I do? Improvise! I quickly discovered that pipe cleaners can be easily pushed through the burlap. This allowed me to gather the burlap exactly how I pleased and secure it to the wreath base exactly where I needed it to be. The base itself came with gold pipe cleaners attached, but I decided to save these for attaching decorations and pretty ribbon in case they showed at all. I used lovely brown ones to secure all of the burlap instead since you could't see them under all of the fluff!

After one full roll of the burlap, I got a little more than a third of the way around the wreath base (see first image). After the second roll, I had made it around  about 3/4 of the wreath base (see second image). And lastly, I finished it off with a little bit of my third roll of burlap (see last image). I noticed afterwards that my loops got a little bit fluffier as I went on (maybe the Sprite was getting to me?). I think that it gave it a little bit of that shabby-chic flare, though, don't you think?

                

After the burlap was complete (and my leggings were covered in burlap remnants), I decided to weave some semi-sparkly ribbon through the center. I did this is a similar way, except instead of pushing the pipe cleaner through the fabric, I gathered it and wrapped the pipe cleaner around it. I did the same loopy pattern all the way around. It took ~2 rolls of the ribbon. The completed, plain wreath is on the right above.

Lastly, I added some fall themed decorations to my wreath. The leaves were from Walmart's craft section (I got them on clearance for 15 cents!), the owl is from their Christmas tree decorations, the bow was made from some Hobby Lobby ribbon and hot glue, and the chalkboard ornament was from Target (I wrote our apartment number on it!).

It's Finally Fall in Texas

Slowly but surely, the weather is turning to fall here in beautiful Texas. This is one of my favorite times of the year because it means I can wear cute clothing and not sweat as I hike across campus to class. It also means that I can break out my tried and true Nine West boots.

These beauties have spent the last 3 years traveling the world with me. Literally. They carried me across campus on the coldest of {Texas cold} days. They spent days and days running around Europe with nights full of macaroons and crepes and more. They even lasted through snow in Denver, Wyoming, and Paris. And now, here they are taking me through my last semester of college. It's crazy what all these boots have seen. They have held up incredibly well, and I would recommend them to anyone (see the link above for similar!)

I am also a huge fan of scarves. They dress up any plain shirt or dress or outfit. Plus, functionally, they keep you warm. I find myself picking scarves up from here and there whenever I am out shopping. Sam Moon is a great place to find affordable, trendy scarves. They aren't the thickest, but they do the trick whenever my outfit needs a boost. I am also majorly crushing on my new MAC lipstick in Twig. It is a darker color that is perfect for fall.

Welcome to a Piece of Texas

Howdy Y'all!

Just kidding, we don't actually talk like that (unless we're greeting others in Aggieland). But, we are two sisters who were born and raised in the great state of Texas. Five years separate us, as well as a few miles (soon to be less!). After talking at the Katy Perry concert, we decided that we were destined to start a blog. We both love fashion, beauty, crafting, food (I mean who doesn't love food?), and more, and we wanted to start sharing that with everyone. That's where Everything Glitters in Texas came in to play.

So, before we start posting all of our ideas on fashion, beauty, etc.- we thought it would be best if you got a better picture of who we are. To start, my name is Madison. I am the younger of the two of us (and shorter). I am just now finishing up my degree from the greatest university on this earth (a.k.a Texas A&M). My next adventure is taking me back to DFW to work at the one and only JCPenney corporate office (but my views and opinions are not reflective of the companies, this blog is for fun!). I have always loved fashion (and somehow I landed a dream job in retail). I also dabble in Pinterest recipes and crafts. Since I will soon be moving into my first big-girl apartment, there will also be some home decor posts I'm sure. Tune in to see me tackle life as an adult. It should be quite entertaining.

Next is my lovely sister Danielle. She is the older, "wiser" one (lol JK she is super smart). She too went to the greatest university on this earth. She now spends her time being a wonderful wife as well as working for a large event planning and promotional group. She is great at doing makeup (hence the beauty section on this blog). She can also bust out amazing outfits and recipes (she and I share a major love for food). She is continually updating and decorating her and her hubbies town home, so you can expect a few of those posts as well.

Together, though, we make up Everything Glitters in Texas, and we hope you enjoy it! -Madison
